Result Interpolation

Result interpolation estimates field values within an element using shape functions. Displacement interpolation is built into the finite element approximation. Strain and stress fields are derived from displacement gradients and constitutive laws.

Interpolation is useful for contour plots, probes, path results, and section cuts. Users should remember that interpolated results are approximate and depend on mesh resolution, element order, and recovery method.
