Symmetry Constraints

Symmetry constraints reduce model size when geometry, material properties, loads, and boundary conditions are symmetric. A symmetry plane constrains displacement normal to the plane while allowing in-plane motion.

Using symmetry incorrectly can suppress real deformation modes. It should only be used when the full physical problem is symmetric, not merely when the geometry is symmetric.
