Strain Recovery

Strain recovery uses the spatial derivatives of finite element shape functions. Because strain depends on displacement gradients, it is usually less smooth than displacement.

Mesh density and element quality strongly influence strain accuracy. Strain results should be interpreted carefully near sharp corners, point loads, and idealized constraints.
