Nodal vs Element Results

Nodal results are values associated with mesh nodes, while element results are associated with elements or integration points. Displacement is naturally nodal, whereas stress and strain are commonly computed at element integration points.

For visualization, element stresses may be extrapolated to nodes and averaged across adjacent elements. This can make plots easier to read but may also reduce local discontinuities that indicate mesh or modeling issues.
