Load Application

Loads represent external actions applied to the model. They may be concentrated at nodes, distributed over edges or surfaces, applied as pressure, or represented as body forces.

Finite element solvers require loads to be converted into equivalent nodal force vectors. The conversion depends on element interpolation and integration rules.

Care should be taken when applying point loads to continuum elements. A point load can create a mathematical stress singularity. In engineering practice, loads should be distributed over realistic contact areas whenever possible.
