Fixed Supports

A fixed support constrains selected displacement degrees of freedom. In three-dimensional solid analysis, a fully fixed support usually prevents translation in the x, y, and z directions.

Fixed supports can idealize rigid attachments, but they may create artificial stress concentrations near the constrained region. When possible, constraints should reflect the actual physical support condition.
